Privacy Policy

Last updated: 19 July 2026

The short version: Darksite is local-first. Your gear, observing log, sketches, sites, life-lists and every other record you keep stay on your device. We have no account system and no server that stores your data. Your observing coordinates never leave your device except in the anonymous weather request described below.

What we collect

Darksite has no sign-up and no user account. We do not collect your name, email, contacts, or any of the content you save in the app. That content never leaves your device except through actions you take yourself — for example, a backup or export you choose to save or share, or an iCloud backup you turn on.

Sky & conditions data

To show cloud & conditions, space weather and satellite passes for your location, the app fetches public data from third-party sources. To keep this private, requests are made in a privacy-minimal way:

These requests carry only what is needed to answer them and never include your observing log, gear, notes or any personal record.

Diagnostics (optional, off unless you turn it on)

To find and fix crashes, the app can send anonymous diagnostic reports. This is off by default; you can turn it on or off at any time in Settings → About → Crash diagnostics. A report contains only: the app and its version, your platform (e.g. iOS / Android) and OS version, and the error type, message and stack trace. It includes no device identifier, no user identifier, and none of your observing records, gear, sketches or coordinates. Reports go to two recipients, both controlled by that single toggle:

When diagnostics are off, neither recipient receives anything.

Microphone, camera & photos

If you record a voice note during an observation, or add a photo to a log entry, the app asks for microphone, camera or photo-library access. This is used only for the action you take, and the resulting recordings and photos are stored on your device. App Lock, if you enable it, uses your device’s Face ID / Touch ID / passcode and never leaves the device.

Backups (optional)

You can create a full backup whenever you choose. On Apple devices you can save it to your own iCloud container, and on any platform you can save it to a folder you pick. Backups are created only when you ask for one, they go to the location you choose, and they are never sent to us — we have no server that receives them.

Purchases

Darksite Pro is a one-time purchase made through the Apple App Store, Google Play, or the Microsoft Store. Payment is processed entirely by the store; Trueframe Digital never sees or stores your payment details. Your purchase is verified on your device against your store receipt, and restoring your purchase on a new device is handled by the store.

Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your data, and there are no advertising SDKs or third-party behavioural-tracking SDKs in the app. The only information that ever leaves your device is the anonymous sky & conditions request and the optional crash diagnostics described above. Store purchase processing is handled by the app store under its own policies.

Your control & deletion

Because your data is stored locally, you are in full control of it. You can delete any observation, sketch, site or record from within the app, or remove everything by deleting the app from your device. Any backups you created — including iCloud backups — are managed by you in the location you saved them.

Children

Darksite is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
