Privacy Policy
Last updated: 6 October 2026
The short version: Selvage stores your sewing library on your device. No account is needed and there is no Trueframe server that stores your records. The app sends crash and performance diagnostics by default, with an off-switch in Settings → Diagnostics. Purchases go through your app store, and on Apple devices and Android through RevenueCat. Link Prefill fetches only the web page you give it. Each of these is described below.
What Selvage stores on your device
Everything you enter is kept in a local database and attachment folders in the app’s own storage on your device: fabric and lot details, remnants and precuts, patterns and the pattern files you import, notions, measurements, projects, ideas, shopping items, photos, notes and app settings. The app also keeps a local copy of your purchase state so Pro works offline.
This data is not encrypted by the app. Your device’s operating system keeps the app’s storage separate from other apps. Selvage does not upload your library to Trueframe Digital, and there is no cloud sync.
Diagnostics (on by default, with an off-switch)
To find and fix crashes and slow screens, Selvage sends diagnostic reports. This is on by default. You can turn it off at any time in Settings → Diagnostics. Two services receive reports:
- Trueframe’s crash-reporting endpoint, a Cloudflare Worker operated by Trueframe Digital, receives crash reports: the app and its version, your platform and operating-system version, and the error type, message and stack trace. The report has no device, installation or user identifier, and your IP address is discarded when the report arrives.
- Sentry (EU region) receives error reports and performance data: app start and screen timings, session health (whether the app closed normally), technical logs and counters, a diagnostic view hierarchy when an error happens, and profiling on Apple devices, with the app version and device and operating-system information. Screenshots and session replay are turned off, and Sentry’s default personal-information fields are turned off.
Neither report is an upload of your fabrics, patterns, measurements, files or photos. An error message or stack trace can sometimes include technical context such as a file path. When the switch is off, neither service receives reports. Selvage has no analytics, advertising or behavioural-tracking services.
Link Prefill
When you paste a shop link and ask Selvage to prefill a fabric, the app downloads that exact web page to look for a title and photo. After you confirm, it may download the selected product image. The request goes only to the address you gave, and it carries no data from your sewing library. Like any web request, the shop’s server sees your IP address and the request itself. Nothing is fetched unless you start it.
Purchases
Selvage Pro is a one-time purchase. Payment is processed by your app store; Trueframe Digital never sees or stores your payment details.
- iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android: the purchase is made through the Apple App Store or Google Play and confirmed and restored through RevenueCat, our purchase-processing provider. RevenueCat receives your purchase history and store transaction details, a customer identifier the app generates (not your name or email), and app and platform information. It does not receive your sewing records, photos or measurements.
- Windows: the purchase is handled by the Microsoft Store directly, without RevenueCat.
The stores and RevenueCat handle this data under their own privacy policies.
Permissions Selvage asks for
- Camera (optional, only when you use it): to photograph a fabric, pattern, notion, project or idea and keep the picture with its record.
- Photo library (optional): to attach an existing picture. Selvage only reads the photos you pick, and keeps its copy on your device.
- Files (optional): when you import a pattern or a CSV, restore a backup, or choose where to save an export.
When you add a fabric photo, Selvage can read the text in it, such as a label, so you can use it in the form. This text recognition runs on your device; the photo is not uploaded for it. Selvage does not ask for your location, contacts or any tracking permission, and it sends no notifications.
Home-screen widgets and Shortcuts
The On your shelf and Next cut widgets (iPhone and Android) and the Shortcuts actions (iPhone) show a summary of your stash. To do this, the app writes a short summary on your device that the widgets and these actions can read. The summary stays on your device.
Backups and exports
Selvage never backs up on its own. A backup is the file you save, in the place you choose:
- Library backup: an archive of every record, fabric photo, pattern file and measurement, saved to a folder you choose. On Apple devices you can also keep a copy in your own iCloud Drive, which Apple stores under your Apple account. Selvage does not add its own encryption to this archive.
- CSV export: a copy of your fabrics, notions, patterns or projects you can open in a spreadsheet.
- Stash Book (Pro) and the shared shopping list: a PDF or text you save or share.
A backup, export or share goes only to the place you choose. Trueframe Digital never receives it. Selvage keeps no hidden copy of a backup on your device.
Other connections
Opening a web link, the store, or the support email leaves Selvage and uses your browser or mail app. Any request to a store, RevenueCat or the diagnostics services carries the normal connection data that service needs to answer it.
Your control and deletion
You can delete any record, file or photo in the app, or remove everything by deleting the app. Backups you saved, including iCloud Drive copies, stay where you saved them until you delete them. On Mac and Windows, app data may remain after you uninstall.
Children
Selvage is a general sewing tool and is not directed at children under 13. It does not create accounts, collect profile information, or include advertising, social or messaging features.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date above. Material changes are also described in the app’s update notes.
