How to check an app is really one-time before you pay

1. Open the store listing and scroll to the In-App Purchases list. Look for the word "lifetime" or "once" next to a price. If every line says "per year" or "per month", it is a subscription app.
2. Check what the free tier does and whether it expires. A trial that ends after 14 days is not a free tier.
3. Check what the one-time price actually unlocks. Some apps sell a lifetime unlock that still leaves a feature behind a subscription.
4. Check whether one purchase covers all your devices. On Apple, look for a single purchase that works on iPhone, iPad and Mac, and for Family Sharing.
5. Check that you can export your data without paying. If export is locked, your history is hostage.
6. If nothing fits, a spreadsheet is free forever. One row per month, assets minus debts, and you own the file.
