How do I keep track of my pet's vaccination records and get a reminder before a booster is due?

Last updated: 8 October 2026

Keep the certificate your vet gives you, and write down each vaccine with its date and its next due date. Then set a reminder a week or two before that date, so there is time to book. In PetChronicle you record the vaccine and add the reminder yourself. A due date alone does not send a notification.

This guide is not veterinary advice. Ask a licensed vet which vaccines your pet needs and when.

How to keep vaccine records

  1. Keep the vet's certificate or vaccine card. Photograph it the day you get it.
  2. Write down the vaccine name, the date it was given, and the next due date.
  3. Add the batch number if it is listed, and the name of the clinic.
  4. Ask your vet for the schedule. It depends on the pet, its age and where you live, so do not guess.
  5. Set a reminder a week or two before each due date.
  6. Keep a copy you can send fast. Boarding places, groomers and airlines often ask for proof.
  7. Back up your records. A lost paper card is hard to replace.

A date in a notebook does not nudge you. A reminder does. Put the reminder in a place you already look every day.

How PetChronicle does it

PetChronicle is a pet health record app. Add a vaccine with the date it was given and, if you know it, the next due date. The next due date shows on the pet overview under "Next due".

To get a reminder, add one yourself. There is a Vaccine booster template, and a reminder can repeat yearly. This step is easy to miss. Saving a vaccine with a due date does not send a phone notification by itself.

Reminders are grouped as Overdue, Today and Upcoming. From the notification you can mark one done or snooze it.

You can scan a vaccine certificate. The text is read on the device. The free plan includes 3 scans per install. Pro raises that limit.

PetChronicle can make a vet-ready PDF of the history. You can view it free. Saving, sharing and printing it need Pro. Backup and export are always free: JSON and CSV export, and a full backup file with photos. Backup is not sync.

The free plan covers 1 active pet, with no trial and no expiry. Pro is US$2.99 a month, US$14.99 a year (auto-renewing) or US$39.99 once, in the US. Other countries pay local prices.

PetChronicle has no account. Records are kept on the device, and you choose when to export or back up. Purchases go through Apple or Google Play. Crash diagnostics are on by default and can be turned off in Settings under Diagnostics.

PetChronicle records what you enter. It does not tell you which vaccines your pet needs.

PetChronicle is live on Google Play. iPhone, iPad and Mac are submitted and waiting for App Store review.
